Transforming Communities

Sustainable development that makes a lasting difference.

What we do

We educate girls and empower women to transform communities.

Moving forward

As an effective charity we strive to deliver sustainable change in rural Kenya.

Our Story

Team Kenya was officially founded in 2008 by Valerie Wilson, a geography teacher and senior manager working in a secondary school in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. Before establishing Team Kenya, Valerie had been working with the Ndhiwa community since 1999, focusing on school partnerships and curriculum exchange.

Since 2008, Team Kenya have built a strong relationship with the community in Ndhiwa, and our partner Twende Pamoja. Together, we have transformed the lives of over 85,000 people in Ndhiwa, including more than 28,000 young girls.

Twende Pamoja

Twende Pamoja delivers the projects on the ground in Ndhiwa. We have worked with Twende Pamoja since the organisation was founded in 2007 as a grassroots self-help group run by local community members. In 2015, it became a registered Kenyan NGO.

We work in close partnership with Twende Pamoja, who have an in-depth understanding of the specific needs of the communities we are supporting. This ensures all work in Kenya is community-led, sustainable, and holistic.

At Team Kenya, we do not need to ‘Shift the Power’, our projects have always been led by the people of Ndhiwa.
